ANZAC Day Home learning Challenge

In the holidays, we had a public holiday for ANZAC Day. This is a special day to remember all of the soldiers that fought for our country. For our holiday home learning, we were asked to create a diorama to represent something related to ANZAC Day. Here are some of the fantastic projects completed by Jacqueline, Samantha, Maia and Pia - aren't they fantastic?

Miss Baik

Miss Baik is our student teacher. She comes and helps us with our learning on Tuesday's. Here are some photos of her teaching the square group some work to do with fractions.

Maths Problem Solving cards

Every week, for maths, we work on some maths problem solving questions. Miss Bateman shares the question with us, we discuss the question and what we need to do, then we go about solving the problem. Some people draw lots of pictures and diagrams to share their thinking, others like to use maths equipment and others like to solve the problems in their heads. Here are some pictures of us being super problem solvers.

Instructions

We are learning how to read and write instructions. Instructions come in many forms (recipes, origami, directions...). They mainly tell us 'how to' do or make something. For reading this week we are reading lots of different types of instructions and completing the related activity. We made things like: balloon hacky sacks, pop-up cards, friendship bracelets, origami, weaving designs, drawings and lots more. Here are some pictures from today.

Book Sort

We have so many books in our classroom! Miss Bateman decided that we needed to have a big sort out. Each group was given a pile of books, which we had to sort into different categories. Some of the categories were fiction, non-fiction, drawing books, science books, history books, cooking books, comic books, magazines, chapter books and lots more. Once they were sorted, we shared our categories with the other groups to see if they had any books to add to our piles. The books were then placed in different boxes around our classroom and labelled so it is easy to find books from different genres to read. Here are some photos of us sorting the books.

Food Inquiry Research Presentations

This term we have been learning about Food for Thought. We have looked at a lot of different things relating to food and at the end of the topic, we got to pick our own question and research it. We then presented out ideas to the class. Here are some photos of us presenting our projects.

Swan Plant

Miss Bateman brought a swan plant to school today. James was very good at looking after it. Him and Anthony have made the following Google Doc to show some information about swan plants.
